Throughout his career, Lyell Gustin fostered collaboration among
musicians by bringing to his studio those connected with significant
music events and seasons in the larger community. In this spirit,
Gustin House recently presented an evening highlighting one of the
great music traditions of the festive season. "Messiah" by George
Frideric Handel and its social history were the focus of a talk by Dr.
Walter Deller, Principal of the College of Emmanuel and St. Chad and
Professor of Scripture (as well as an accomplished musician with
extensive experience in choral and church music). Tenor Michael Harris
and mezzo-soprano Lisa Hornung, with pianist Gregory Schulte,
performed recitatives and arias selected from Parts One, Two and Three
of "Messiah." The program was held at Gustin House on Monday, December
12, 2005.
